What’s the difference between the County and the towns as far as trash and recycling collection?
Mecklenburg County DOES NOT collect the curbside materials. Instead, the County processes the materials at the Metrolina Recycling Facility. The collection at your home is the responsibility of the municipality in which you live. If you live in an unincorporated area of Mecklenburg County and you desire curbside collection, contract a licensed hauler.
My trash and recycling were not picked up, who do I contact?
Mecklenburg County does not collect curbside trash or recycling. Curbside collection is performed by the City of Charlotte or one of the towns. If you live in an unincorporated area of Mecklenburg County, and you desire curbside collection, you will need to contact a residential hauling company. For contact information, visit here.  
I live in the City of Charlotte, how do I schedule a bulky item collection, report a broken cart, or order new trash or recycling services?
Mecklenburg County does not collect curbside trash or recycling. To contact the City, please use one of the following ways:

What’s the difference between curbside collection, Full-Service Recycling Center Drop-Off Centers, and Self-Service Centers in Mecklenburg County?
Mecklenburg County is comprised of 6 Towns and the unincorporated area of Mecklenburg County. 

The 6 Towns are: City of Charlotte and the Towns of: Davidson, Cornelius, Huntersville, Pineville, Mint Hill, and Matthews. 

Curbside collection (trash and recycling) occurs at most residential homes in Mecklenburg County. Other services, such as bulky waste collection and yard waste collection may be provided by contact the respective Town Hall. If you live in an unincorporated area of Mecklenburg County, and you desire curbside collection, you will need to contact a residential hauling company. For contact information click here.

Residents of Mecklenburg County can recycle and/or dispose more items at the Full-Service Drop-Off Centers. Residents of Mecklenburg County may also bring recyclables to the staffed Self-Service Centers. These Centers will only accept the following items:

Where is Compost Central Recycling Center?

What is the cost of disposal?

When is the next paper shredding event?
Paper shredding events are held every 3rd Saturday at Compost Central Recycling Center in the Spring (March-June) and Fall (September-November). Time slots will open on the first day of each month. For more information, click here.  
What can I recycle in my curbside cart?
There are only 6 items you can recycle curbside in Mecklenburg County. That's cardboard, cans, cartons, paper, glass bottles, and plastic bottles & jugs with necks. Refer to the acceptable list on our website.
How can I purchase compost and mulch? Where can I purchase compost and mulch?
You can purchase our mulch and compost at all four full-service recycling centers. Mecklenburg County does not deliver mulch or compost. For more information on our products, pricing, and a list of companies who indicated that they will deliver to Mecklenburg County residents, visit www.meckmulchmadness.com.

What is Enhanced Recycling?
Mecklenburg County’s four Full-Service Recycling Centers will now accept the following recyclables:

Polystyrene/White Rigid Foam
Shredded Paper
Textiles
Hard & Soft Back Books
Food Waste Collection (Coming Soon)
Clean Wood (Coming Soon)

These recyclables make up the Enhanced Recycling Program. These items are recyclable only at the Full-Service Recycling Centers. The bins are clearly marked. For more information on Enhanced Recycling, visit https://meckfoam.com/.
